Mesdaglaan
Bosch en Duin, The Netherlands
2026 | under construction
In 1966, architect Jan Plas designed a bungalow that, despite some meticulous details, contains a somewhat chaotic mix of shapes and materials. This renovation reduces the chaos mainly by simplifying the use of materials: a limestone pedestal is created that consistently carries the three stucco volumes. The existing pergola, which unintentionally became a fourth volume, is halved in size and fully merged with the living room volume. The project shows how a predominantly sustainability-driven intervention is used to upgrade the architectural quality of this beautiful residence, with maximum preservation of the original details.
